Sunday

BOISE, Idaho – Ken Nelson and Terry Anderson scored for the home state at the Napa Auto Parts Ignitor NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho, while Kris Krabill grabbed his second win in as many racers in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Nostalgia Funny Car category.

Nelson, Hayden Lake, Idaho, laid down a 6.977-second lap at 189.98 mph in his 2015 dragster to defeat Tony Burton, Lacey, Wash., clocking in at 7.341, 182.50 in the Rig Rentals Top Dragster final round. Anderson, out of Meridian, Idaho, drove his ’67 Nova to a 10.280 mph pass in knocking out Sean Cour, Brush Prairie, Wash., and his ’06 Cobalt in the Super Stock class.

Krabill, Bellevue, Wash., faced off with Dan Horan Jr., Sylmar, Calif., in Nostalgia Funny Car pitting the two fastest cars on property in a head to head battle. Krabill came into the event having won the Heritage Series season opener March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, and picked up where he left off qualifying on top of the field and clocking in at 5.697 second, 245.27 mph for the win over Horan to take home the trophy.

In Comp Eliminator it was division hitter Jeff Lane outlasting the field with his ’10 Chevy and taking out Ralph Van Paepegham, Garden Valley, Idaho, who left early with a foul start handing the win to the North Bend, Wash., racer.

Lane was joined by fellow Washington racers Bill Bushmaker of Auburn, Wash., and Brain Phillips, Prosser, Wash., who won in Stock and Top Sportsman respectively. Bushmaker took out Brad Burton, Snohomish, Wash., with his ’76 Road Runner posting an 11.714 second 112.02 mph pass to Burton’s quicker 10.969, 113.09 and Phillips held off Bryan Warr going 7.995, 170.62 with his ’02 Camaro to Warr’s 7.376, 182.67 out of Riverton, Utah.

In the Super index classes it was Tanner Theobald leading the charge in Super Comp with Ray Cordeiro and Steve Lowe scoring in Super Gas and Super Street.

Theobald, Saint George, Utah, went 9.165, 158.69 to end Craig Blaisdell’s day and Cordeiro of Santa Barbara, Calif., drove his ’63 Corvette past Ross Childers, Gladstone, Ore., with a 10.160, 151.66. Lowe, Langley, B.C., downed Steve Laskowske, Tigard, Ore., with his ’68 Camaro to take the trophy back to Canada.

In the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson it was California racer Doug Schumann and his ’98 Suzuki winning over Travis Patridge, Kennewick, Wash., in 8.573 seconds at 153.37 mph.

In the Summit Racing Series classes, Casey Compton, Boise, Idaho, knocked out Chris Jaggers, Middleton, Idaho in Super Pro; Johannes Berndt, Brigham City, Utah, downed Lisa Thomas, Meridian, Idaho, in Pro; and Luke Jacobson, Caldwell, Idaho, won over Steve Wingert, Boise, Idaho, in Sportsman

BOISE, ID. – Action continued today for the NHRA Northwest Division and the Lucas Oil Divisional Ignitor Nitro Opener at Firebird Raceway for three packed days of quarter-mile drag racing.  Racers took to the track for final qualifying and time trials highlighted by the Comp Eliminator, Rig Rentals Top Dragster and the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars that each made two hits at the track.

Fields were set in nine classes ranging from 200 mph Top Dragsters and Top Sportsman to Stock Eliminator and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson.  Gates open at 8 a.m. on Sunday with eliminations set for 9 a.m.  Tickets are $20 for adults. BOISE, ID. - The NHRA Northwest Division is at Firebird Raceway for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Napa Auto Parts Ignitor Nitro Opener presented by Peterson Chevrolet Buick Cadillac this weekend featuring Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, and the division’s Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series.

This weekend’s event is one of seven in the division and one of 45 that take place throughout the year from coast to coast with nearly 400 of the best racers from the region looking for valuable points leading toward national and divisional championships.  Racers made qualifying and time trial runs today that also included opening round for Nostalgia Funny Car. 

Gates at Firebird Raceway open at 8 a.m. with qualifying and time trials start Saturday at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualifies at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Nostalgia Funny Car qualifies Saturday at 1 and 5 pm.  Eliminations are set to begin Sunday at 9 a.m. with round 1 of Nostalgia Funny Car set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the Ignitor Nitro Opener are $20 Saturday and Sunday for adults. Children 15 and under are admitted free.

BOISE, Idaho - Firebird Raceway will host the NHRA Northwest Division for the 46th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Peterson Chevrolet Buick Cadillac on April 29 - May 1. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Additionally, the event will play host to the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car class. Lucas Oil categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Firebird Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualifies at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday and at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Nostalgia Funny Car qualifies on Friday at 4 pm, and Saturday at 1 and 5 pm. Eliminations Sunday at 9 a.m. Round 1 of Nostalgia Funny Car is Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the Ignitor are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday for adults. Children 15 and under are admitted free.

SATURDAY, April 30 - Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials continue at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Nostalgia Funny Car qualify at 1 and 5 p.m.

SUNDAY, May 1 - Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations start at 9 a.m. Round 1 of Nostalgia Funny Car is at 1 p.m.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2016 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2016 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA’s Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions’ purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
