Monday
BOISE, Idaho – Local racer Mike Coltrin of Boise, Idaho, scored the Super Gas title at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Peterson Chevrolet at Firebird Raceway.
Coltrin drove his ’63 Corvette straight through eliminations and into the winner’s circle defeating John Whitmore, Mrytle Creek, Ore., with a run of 10.136 seconds at 156.03 mph. Whitmore, driving a ’05 Cavalier, left early with a foul start.
Joining Coltrin was Scott Burton and Jeff Lane who took home trophies in Stock and Comp Eliminator respectively. Burton, Golden, Colo., faced off with his son and former division champion Brad Burton with dad getting the best of Brad in his ’70 Formula crossing the finish line in 10.637 at 109.55 mph. Brad, Snohomish, Wash., came across in 10.890 seconds at 118.96 mph. Five-time division champion Lane out of North Bend, Wash., had more than enough power to hold off Dale Giroux, Canyon Creek, Alb. Lane took the early lead and never looked back posting a run of 8.156, 148.95 in his ’10 Chevrolet.
Running in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Series was the Nostalgia Funny Car class of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. In dominating fashion, Steven Densham wheeled his Teachers Pet Camaro to his second straight Heritage Series win. Densham qualified number one and beat Wally Giavia and Robert Overhosler in rounds one and two for the right to face off with Roger Garten in the final. Densham raced to his second straight 5.81 second pass at 240.25 mph for the win.
Defending event champion Dan Provost, Abbotsford, B.C., won again in the Rig Rentals Top Dragster class while Jake Neibauer, Billings, Mont., won in the RH Race Cars Top Sportsman. Provost had a big holeshot with a .001 second reaction time to win over John Chitwood, St. Helens, Ore., in 6.713 seconds at 199.05 mph. Neibauer was out first on Ed Olpin and held on for the win in his ’63 Corvette at 7.103, 187.86.
Rounding out the Lucas Oil winners were reigning Northwest Division Stock Champion Mark Faul, Tacoma Wash., in Super Stock; Mike Shannon, Kelowna, B.C. in Super Comp; and Becky Lindsey, Puyallup, Wash., in Super Street.
In the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson it was Rick Newport, Bluffdale, Utah, and his ’95 Suzuki taking the win against Dave Toth, Medicine Hat. Alb.
Northwest Division racers head to Mission Raceway for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, June 5-7.

BOISE, Idaho – After a rainy Friday, fields were set Saturday for all classes at Firebird Raceway and the NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor Nitro Opener NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as nearly 400 racers will kick off eliminations on Sunday morning.
Gates open on Sunday at 8 a.m. with racing set to begin at 9. Round 1 for Nostalgia Funny Car is scheduled for 1 p.m. with racing continuing throughout the day and culminating with the winner’s circle celebration.

BOISE, Idaho – Firebird Raceway will host the 45th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Peterson Chevrolet on May 15-17. The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. The division’s RH Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.
The Ignitor will also mark the second stop in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series in what has been coined the Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout for the AA/Funny Car class. Headlining the open 8-car qualified field will be the two-time and reigning Ignitor champion Kris Krabill from Kent, Wash. Krabill will drive the “Northwest Hitter” of O’Brien & Austin. He will be challenged by the March Meet winning “Teacher’s Pet” Camaro of Steven Densham and his dad Gary.
Gates at Firebird Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday and at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Nostalgia Funny Car qualify on Friday at 4 pm, and Saturday at 1 and 5 pm. Eliminations will start Saturday afternoon for larger classes and continue Sunday at 9 a.m. Round 1 of Nostalgia Funny Car is Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the Ignitor are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday for adults. Children 15 and under are admitted free.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2015 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.
JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2015 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2015 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.
The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.
Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2015 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.
NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA’s Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions’ purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
RH RACECARS TOP SPORTSMAN SERIES: The Northwest Division RH Racecars Top Sportsman Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Top Sportsman class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $3,500 champions’ purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.
RIG RENTALS TOP DRAGSTER SERIES: The Northwest Division Top Dragster Series, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in the Northwest division’s Top Dragster class to earn points toward divisional championships.
